Why worry about Chrome?
Why shouldn’t we save passwords in chrome or any browser?
The Problem: Many business owners don’t realise the risk their staff take by storing passwords in web browsers like Google Chrome.
Most employees probably use Chrome as their default browser—it’s fast, convenient, and syncs with their Google account. But did you know that storing passwords in Chrome can put your business data at serious risk?
Here’s why: when staff save passwords in Chrome, they’re typically tied to their personal Google account. If they sign into that account on another device—like a home laptop or mobile phone—all of their saved work passwords can be accessed on that device too. While this may seem convenient, it opens the door for anyone with access to their Google account to view or use those passwords.
That includes hackers, who might steal Google credentials through phishing or malware. It could even be a friend or family member who borrows the device and snoops in Chrome settings. In some cases, they could install a password manager and export all saved credentials. From there, it’s easy to access business-critical platforms like HMRC, email, cloud storage, your CRM, and more.
This creates a serious risk: data theft, account lockouts, and other potentially damaging consequences.
The solution: Stop storing passwords in Chrome. Instead, use a dedicated password manager.
A password manager is a secure app that stores and encrypts your passwords. It keeps them separate from personal accounts and allows you to generate strong, unique passwords for each platform. You only need to remember one master password, and you can control which devices are allowed access.
Using a password manager helps your business stay secure while simplifying your team’s day-to-day work. No more forgotten passwords, risky autofill, or data exposure if a device is lost or stolen.
